The Magpie's Tale was created in 2026 after years of searching for a suitable home for our business idea.
With over 30 years experience in bookselling for family and other book retailers we made our dream a reality and finally opened our very own independent bookshop.
We love being part of Churchtown village among all of the other independent businesses.

I love reading everything from classics to children's books and always have about five books on the go at once! My favourite book is 'Persuasion' by Jane Austen.

For me, bookselling has never felt like work. Surrounded by books, meeting like-minded people and sharing my passion for books- I love it! I can’t name a favourite book, there are too many candidates, but my desert island read would be ‘ Les Miserables’ by Victor Hugo.

Our thirteen year old working cocker spaniel who can frequently be found at the bookshop with us. He's often curled up behind the counter or looking for a fuss and a treat!
